Let me begin by offering an apology to the Third World. The West in many instances has let you down in a manner that leaves me somewhat ashamed and often embarrassed. We tend as a society to gravitate towards causes and needs that are near and dear to our hearts. If we have lost a loved one to any form of disease or if a crisis has occured, we usually offer to help in that cause either through money or time. This involvement is a worthwhile show of compassion and should be applauded. We have something that is tangible. We have however, very little that is tangible to the Third World. Perhaps the only thing is a moral obligation and responsibility to view us all as equals and help just one human life who did not ask to be born poor.
