CHILDREN’S HOME – CHILDCARE AND DEVELOPMENT
This is a joint project of The Sixteenth of May Foundation and its partners whose primary aim is to respond to the humanitarian needs of thousands of destitute and desperate children in Twic East County and surrounding areas in Southern Sudan. The orphanage will be established in Kongor. It will focus on providing shelter, food, education, healthcare, counseling and guidance and cultural services to children especially those that are orphaned or destitute.
PRIMARY AND SECONDARY – EDUCATION AND TRAINING
The Sixteenth of May Foundation, with support from its partners and affiliates, will establish a school in Twic East County with the mission to respond to the basic needs of children and to create a learning opportunity that uplifts individuals, improves the educational system and pulls together resources from stakeholders, partners and communities. The School will be equipped with computers and other modern educational materials. The school will have local teachers who will teach from a Sudanese curriculum built here in the West. Educators from the West will assist in the Sudan as volunteers and help with the skills necessary to be effective in the process.
COMMUNITY CENTER – OFFICES AND HALLS
The Sixteenth of May Foundation recognizes the importance of community gathering and interaction. We are gathering resources to create a Community Center where villagers can learn, meet, play and find helpful resources. This is very important as thousands of Sudanese refugees returned to nothing in communities they left behind close to two decades ago. At the center, there will be services such as information and referral, educational workshops and seminars, meeting halls, cultural activities and internet services. The Community Center will also host the returning Lost Boys and Girl of Sudan as beneficiaries and skilled teachers, mentors and consultants.
